Sudan's Suffering Children--

ECM Offers New Hope for a New Sudan

For twenty years the brave people of southern Sudan have struggled for existence as their oSudan officials showing ECM reps their prized copy of the 2005 peace agreementwn government bombed them and did everything possible to annihilate them.  At last, in January 2005, through the efforts of leaders like John Garang, a peace agreement was signed.  Although there have been some violations, the agreement gives southern Sudan a rest that this generation has never known.  It also makes it safer and much more feasible for Christian organizations to help rebuild that devastated land.

In November 2006, ECM International Directors John and Lorella Rouster, accompanied by ECM Ugandan staff, made an initial visit to Sudan.  One staff member urged the visit because he said, "If you want to consider areas of greatest need, I can tell you right now it's Sudan."  Some relief supplies were delivered to a church and orphanage there, like BiSudanese orphan thrilled with his new duds donated by ECM friendsbles, Gospel booklets from World Missionary Press, clothing, shoes, soccer balls and needles and other items.  This was a great encouragement to the orphans.  It's wonderful to see the joy on the faces of downtrodden children as they realize they are not forgotten.  On December 1, the International Board committed ECM to ministry in the New Sudan, as the southern part of the country is now called.

Every Child Ministries' first initiative will be a series of training seminars for children's ministry.  We are planning those for early 2009.  We are looking for evangelical Christians with substantial experience in children's ministries in their local churches or in parachurch ministries, Christians who are not afraid to rough it.  There are no hotels or restaurants there.  The group will camp in tents or live in local accomodations and prepare their Lorella Rouster giving gifts of Bibles and Bible story books from ECM friends to an orphanage in Sudanown food.  We will also at that time be taking pictures of and gathering information on the neediest children of the area.  That will help us to start a child sponsorship program to get continuing help to some of the children and enable them to start or continue their education.   This is vital in preparing for New Sudan's future.
