School Children in Africa

To do this, we must not only offer hope to the downtrodden (which we do through our ministries to street children and trokosi slave children). We must also somehow reach every child with the hope of Jesus, as our name implies. While respecting freedom of religion for every individual (which is an inherent part of the Christian faith), we must make sure that every child has an opportunity to understand the hope Jesus offers and has a fair opportunity to decide his or her response.

We must reach and train future leaders of African nations by reaching the children of Africa now, so that there may be a brighter future for the many peoples of the African continent.

Every Child Ministries reaches the new generation in Africa in four major ways:

  • "Character Development from the Bible" program of teaching mainly in public schools, reaching a broad cross-spectrum of the community and African children of many religious backgounds (taught by invitation of the Ghana Education Service)
  • Training and Equipping Bible Teachers for Children and Youth in Local Church Ministries
(through seminars, literature, recordings, and radio)
  • Empowering & Motivating Christians to Reach Children through Bible Clubs in Homes
  • Providing "Teacher's Resource Libraries" to equip Christian teachers with teaching materials and Bible study aids, and Public Reading Rooms where African youth can enjoy reading and have access to a variety of reading material. In the same spirit, ECM also donates mini-libraries of Christian and general educational books to selected school and community libraries in Africa.

Character Building from the Bible:

Each summer, Every Child Ministries teams up teachers from America and from Ghana to introduce the Character Development from the Bible program to new areas of Ghana. This is a wonderful opportunity that can introduce the teachings of the Bible to whole communities.

You can help by:

Cheryl Cramer, ECM summer missionary 2004, & Thomas Vortia ECM school volunteer with class at Dokpoe Village Photo property of Every Child MinistriesIn the summer of 2002, the summer team taught in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. Following the teaching on Truth, a group of students voluntarily confessed to a scheme to steal from a classmate and returned what they had taken. The teachers were impressed, and quickly realized that these lessons have power to change students' behavior and lives in a very positive manner that will greatly impact the nation for good.

Another student became concerned about sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with friends. She visited the team after school hours to learn how to explain the Gospel to them. After the team left, she started a Bible club for children around her home. This girl is only 14 years old, but she is already becoming a missionary to others, and it all started through ECM's school ministry.

Positive for AIDS, Positive That They Are Now Saved

Kinshasa, Congo teachers rejoicing over ECM training Photo property of Every Child MinistriesECM workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo noticed that two high school students were crying all the way through ECM's youth retreat in the town of Kikwit there. Clementine and Nkolo had recently returned from doctor's visits.  They were both students had learned that they were HIV positive, due to loose sexual activities during their high school days. Facing the reality of early death and the devastating fruit that sinful living had produced in their young lives, salvation in Christ had special meaning for them. Both students received Jesus Christ as their Savior during the retreat. Now they are positive that their sins are forgiven, positive they will be welcomed by God when they leave this world. Their newfound joy shows the effectiveness of ECM's Bible-teaching ministries for the youth of Africa.

ECM summer team training with Ghanaian partners for school ministry Photo property of Every Child MinistriesYou can enable African missionaries with Every Child Ministries to establish a Bible-teaching ministry for children and youth in an African village where none exists for only $30. You can also help by "adopting" or supporting an African missionary as your own (either completely or by contributing "shares" of support at $20 each). (Most full time salaries in DR Congo are around $100 a month, but contact ECM's International Office for precise needs.)

If you love Jesus and the Scriptures and have some experience teaching in either a school or a church ministry, you could become a Bible teacher on a summer team, helping reach whole communities in Ghana with Bible truths. If interested, contact ECM.

SPECIAL NEED!  Project Sponsors  and School Sponsors

Many friends understand the strategic importance and value of supporting an overall project.  Sometimes a church, business, group or individual will choose to support the "Character Building from the Bible" Program for Public Schools directly as a whole.  Their gifts help to provide needed transportation expenses and a small honorarium for teachers as well as to provide teaching materials, training, and Bibles.  No matter how carefully we plan the budget, we can't anticipate every possibility!  In a sense project sponsors are the backbone of the public school ministry because they allow ECM to meet real needs as they arise.   If you or your group would like to sponsor the Public School Ministry project, just designate your gift "Public School Ministry."  Sponsors may choose the level of support that is right for them.  Special gifts are also welcome.

You may also choose to support as a School Sponsor, underwriting the cost of ECM's ministry in one or more of the 121 schools where we now minister monthly.  The cost for one school is $10 monthly.  You will be assigned one of the schools by name, learn the names of the Bible teachers there, and pray for them regularly.  Just designate School Sponsor when you give.
