History of Haven of Hope
In 2001, ECM purchased seven acres of prime property for the orphanage, outside the capitol city of Accra in Ghana, West Africa. The area chief even donated one additional acre to enable us to develop a clinic where we can meet the health needs of the children at the home, and of the surrounding population at the same time. Construction began in Spring 2002, and the first children were welcomed off the streets on November 23--in time for Christmas!

Since then, ECM has constructed a dining-activity center, apartments for staff/guest housing, and a school.  Haven of Hope is now home to 46 children who desperately needed a safe haven, a loving atmosphere, an opportunity for Christian instruction, and a chance to go to school.  Thirty-two children have been taken from the streets and two orphans from idol shrines, where they had been left behind after liberation because their mothers had died while in slavery.  To learn more about the slave children, click here.

In 2004, Every Child Ministries layed plans to keep expanding Haven of Hope orphanage /children's home for ten years (2004-2014) to enable the home to welcome many more children from the streets and other desperate situtations.  In 2007, we opened a second home which enabled us to double our capacity and to separate girls and boys in two separate homes sharing the same eight-acre campus.

Friends!  Can you possibly imagine what it was like when the first homeless street kids came into their own home? Can you imagine what it was like when these little children threw away the raggedy old plastic bags they had been sleeping on? What a bonfire that was to the glory of God! We wish you could have been there when ECM staff tucked them into their own beds for the first time. We wish you could have seen them rubbing their tummies on the beautiful terrazzo flooring and running their hands down the brightly painted walls in utter awe.  They never dreamed of living in such a beautiful place.  Thanks to your partnership, many of these abandoned kids are now HOMELESS NO MORE!   PRAISE GOD!  Let's take MORE off the street and feed them with the wonderful food of the Gospel, to the GLORY OF GOD!

SPECIAL NEED!  Project Sponsors

Many friends understand the strategic importance and value of supporting an overall project.  Sometimes a church, business, group or individual will choose to support Haven of Hope orphanage directly as a whole.  Rather than sponsoring individual children, their gifts benefit all the children at the home and make it possible for more to come.  They also help to meet unexpected expenses like when the well that services the home needed repair, like when fuel costs rose and it cost more to get food for the children, like when a worker was in an accident and needed help with medical costs.  No matter how carefully we plan the budget, we can't anticipate every possibility!  In a sense project sponsors are the backbone of the orphanage because they allow ECM to meet special needs and keep things stable at the home even if when sponsors miss their payments for various reasons.  They allow the children to go on excursions and get extra lessons as needed.  If you or your group would like to sponsor the Haven of Hope project, just designate your gift "Haven of Hope project."  Sponsors may choose the level of support that is right for them.  Special gifts are also welcome.
